After its announcement from the beginning of the year that Nintendo Eshop support in the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems would end in March 2023, Nintendo has begun to reduce some of ESHOP’s associated functions. One of these functions will be withdrawn on May 23 and marks the first stage of the closing plans described by Nintendo every time he made his announcement. That day, Wii U and 3DS owners will no longer be able to add funds to their accounts on those platforms through credit card payments.
For those who have lost the initial announcement, the details were shared on a page on the Nintendo support site that lists the various steps that will lead to the total closure of Nintendo EShop on the Wii U and 3DS platforms. The first step is the end of the use of credit cards on those devices.
“As of May 23, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in Nintendo Eshop in Wii U or the family of Nintendo 3DS systems,” said the support site said.
With the option of depositing funds on your wallet on those platforms that will soon be eliminated, your only method to add funds to ESHOP through WII U or 3DS will be to use a physical nintendo card physical. That will work until August 29 when that option is also eliminated, but even after that happens, you can still use download codes to acquire things in your systems.
Or, if you have a Switch Nintendo and its various accounts and session are correctly linked, you can use the balance of the shared wallet between the generations of the console to buy things in 3DS or Wii U.
«Users who link their Nintendo Network ID wallet (used with Wii U and the family of Nintendo 3DS) with their Nintendo Account wallet (used with the family of Nintendo Switch systems) can use the shared balance to buy content in any of these systems. Until the end of March 2023, ”said Nintendo. “After that, the balance can only be used to buy content for the family of Nintendo Switch systems.”
By March 2023, purchases and free downloads will be completely withdrawn in 3DS and Wii U systems, so take them away while you can, since the various studies of ESHOP continue to decrease.
